I just finished A Court of Thrones and Roses (commonly referred to as ACOTAR) by Sarah J. Mass – and, I should have listened to the hype sooner. 😉
This is a beauty and the beast retelling set in the fairy world. But, even though I loved Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, and could most definitely see the storyline of beauty and the beast in this book, I wasn’t ever bored with the predictability of the story. In fact, I was so captivated by the story that I finished the book in 2 days — and this review will likely be riddled with spelling/grammatical errors because I skipped so much sleep to find out what happened with Feyre, and Tamlin, and Rhysand (I kind of hate AND love Rhys. In my mind he’s like Loki – who I also hate/love. 😉). And, Lucien — I have a soft spot for him.
I don’t want to give any spoilers, but it’s adventure, romance and fairy tale rolled into one. I REALLY enjoyed it! I’m so glad I didn’t read it until there were three published books (and one more coming in May I hear!) because if I’d had to live with that cliffhanger at the end of ACOTAR I would have been sooo sad!! (Not as sad as the Harry Potter cliffhangers I endured for years, but sad nonetheless.)
If you want to read this book I’d recommend doing it over a weekend when you can stay up super-late reading and a book hangover won’t affect your next day at work or school. 😉
